Micah 6 Coalition

What does the Lord require of you?

“to do justice, to love kindness, and walk humbly with our God.” – Micah 6:8

In 2001, All Saints' joined the Micah 6 Coalition of University Area Churches in order to coordinate our services and resources more effectively for individuals and families in need. On July 20, 2004, Micah 6 was incorporated and approved as a 501(c)(3) in September 2004. Becoming a nonprofit corporation allows Micah 6 to perform essential activities such as maintaining a bank account and accepting nontaxable donations. It is now also eligible to receive grant funding.

Micah 6 currently has eleven Member Congregations and one Supporting Congregation. Each member congregation provides an annual monetary pledge and one representative to serve on the Micah 6 of Austin Board of Directors. The board meets monthly to ensure that the mission, “to work together as a collation of faith congregations to meet the needs of homeless and impoverished people in the city of Austin through facilities in the University of Texas area by answering the call of Micah 6:8,” is fulfilled. Micah 6 has three programs of focus: operation of a food pantry, support to Freeze Night, and engagement with the Street Youth Ministry and other homeless young adult populations.

The food pantry, located at University Presbyterian Church, is open on both Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings and allows individuals to shop once a week. The Pantry is serving an average of 2000+ individuals each month. Volunteers from All Saints' work at the Food Pantry weekly. All Saints’ provides additional support to stock the pantry shelves through our monthly food challenges and plastic grocery bag collections.
Freeze Night provides shelter on very cold nights to homeless youths who participate in the Lifeworks program. Volunteers from All Saints' work on a rotational schedule for Freeze Night.

The Street Youth Ministry provides a variety of support to homeless youth/young adults in the downtown area. Micah 6 is assisting these youth through a special shopping day at the University United Methodist Church’s Fig Leaf Clothes Closet program, a Sunday afternoon Drop In Center at University Baptist Church and also attending collaborative meetings to problem solve needs.
