Disaster Preparedness Partner Parish: St. Andrew's, The Heights (Houston)
Dear Saints,
Parishes in the Diocese of Texas are partnering as a component of our diocesan disaster preparedness. As described in the Congregation Emergency Preparedness Workbook, "partnering with another congregation within the diocese provides an opportunity to both serve others and receive services in an emergency. Partnering congregations can serve as a center for communication, an evacuation site, or a source of relief volunteers, among other things."
The Rev. Jimmy Grace, Rector of St. Andrews', The Heights (Houston), reached out to me with the invitation to partner and I have accepted. He and I have known each other professionally for 16 years and have collaborated in other ways in the past. The photograph below was taken of us in 2019 at St. Andrew's.
Parish Administrator Mona Myers will be our staff contact person for the partnership. We have a "stale" list of parishioners who were involved in Disaster Preparedness in the past. She and I will be working to revive and refresh this team. Please let us know if you are interested in serving in this way. [email protected]
Also, prayerfully consider making a financial gift to our ministry partner Episcopal Relief & Development for US Disaster Response. I was serving at Christ Church Cathedral when Hurricane Harvey hit and their quick and sustained infusion of financial support and strategic, disaster-expertise coaching made a dramatic difference to our parishioners and our neighbors. Episcopal Relief & Development is presently working with Episcopal parishes ministering to those affected by recent tornadoes all over this country.
Please pray for protection for St. Andrew's and all people during what is expected to be an active hurricane season.
Peace,
Genevieve+
