Asset-Mapping idea becomes reality: Nutrition on a Budget Program at Loaves & Fishes
From our Asset-Mapping event in December emerged an idea and partnership that we are excited to share with you:
"Nutrition on a Budget" developed by Sonia Coyle MA, has come to All Saints'.
Sonia is a Family and Community Health Agent with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Travis County. In collaboration with Pam Castles RN MSN MA Wesley Nurse with Methodist Healthcare Ministries (who comes to our ministry every week to offer free health screening services), and our wonderful Loaves & Fishes volunteers, Sonia demonstrated and 19 of our guests participated in making Corn Critter Salad. Participants were given a recipe, a $10 HEB gift card, a list of all ingredients and their corresponding cost (totally $9.06), and other health information. Then they were invited to taste the prepared healthy meal. The program was well received.
We are making plans for Sonia to return in August and establishing "Nutrition on a Budget" as an on-going component of our Loaves & Fishes ministry.
Thanks to our volunteers and all who support this ministry through their time, talent, and treasure.
